The origins of
Meter-U
Freedom was formed in 1996, as a result of a management buy-out of Yorkshire Electricity's
building and civil maintenance department. Since then a
further 12 franchise conversions have taken place and there
are now over 500 Franchisees successfully owning and running
their own businesses. The group has grown and diversified as
EnServe Group Limited of which Meter-U,
formerly Freedom Metering Services, is a part.
The unique position on Meter-U
Meter-U has a unique product in its Conversion
Franchise Model, which was designed from within a utility
environment to meet a utility driven demand.
i.e.
maintenance and improvement of service at reduced cost -
typically, savings of at least 20% have been delivered and
30% is typical in meter reading services. The client has
one contract with one supplier. The conversions have been
undertaken in partnership with, and supported by, the
industry trade unions.

operations by a
leading Utility Services benchmarking company says:
".performance is among the
best that we have seen (cost levels circa 50% below the
level of the best performers). While service
levels are at Best Performer levels as well, its meter
reading accuracy rates are exceptional. It is clear that
Meter-U has put in place a framework that delivers
consistently high levels of service at aggressively low
